Draw Your “Self”

Draw the open shape of a body on a large sheet of paper or use the one provided here (you could even use a gingerbread man cookie cutter as a guide if you wish to draw your own) – read and think about some of the questions below and then go for it using language, collage, and lots of color - whatever takes your fancy. Draw in and around the body shape to express your answers.

Reflect upon your psychological, physical and spiritual evolution and describe the roads you have chosen (or perhaps those that have chosen you) to travel. Where are you going? Where are you now? What conflicts are you dealing with? Do you have physical, emotional or spiritual pain? Where is it located? If you draw it how does it look? What can you do to relieve it? How do you cope? Can you draw your coping tools? What do you love? How do you love? Color your moods! What are your dreams or visions for the future and how much attention do you pay to them? Perhaps you need to reflect on the dark side. Draw those night terrors. Have them flying out of you. Draw a way to prevent them from returning. What don't you like about yourself? What things have brought you pain? What are you afraid of? What has brought you joy? What parts of yourself are you reluctant to claim? It is not necessary to use all of these ideas, only those important to you now.
