Legitimate Credentials: Other than ‘RD’, here are some other credible certifications to look for… CNS (Certified Nutrition Specialist) from Certification Board of Nutritional Specialists (CBNS) Some MDs and PhDs are recognized by the following groups and may be good sources for nutritional information… ASNS (American Society for Nutritional Sciences) ASCN (American Society for Clinical Nutrition) ACBN (American Clinical Board of Nutrition) |

Notice how close the names and initials of legitimate and questionable organizations are: like CNS vs CCN!! This is not by accident, it is meant to be confusing! Questionable practitioners want you to think they are legitimate.

Questionable Credentials: Here are some “alphabets” to be wary of: CCN (Certified Clinical Nutritionist) from: Clinical Nutrition Certification Board (CNCB) an organization that credentials ‘nutritionists’ who are not be eligible to become RD’s or can’t be certified by the American Board of Nutrition (a legitimate organization). CN (Certified Nutritionist) from: American Health Science University offers a credential to students who complete its six-course "distance learning program" and take an examination. It is closely aligned with the health-food industry and should not be regarded as trustworthy. CNC (Certified Nutritional Consultant) from: American Association of Nutritional Consultants issues a credential to persons who take an open-book test. The CNC credential should be regarded as bogus. CCN (Certified Clinical Nutritionists),CN (Certified Nutritionists), CNC (Certified Nutrition Consultants) from: The Society of Certified Nutritionists (SCN) membership should be regarded as a sign of poor judgment. |
